Leadership Wisconsin is pleased to congratulate Jon Hochkammer and Ryan Schone on their recent awards. UW Colleges and UW-Extension Chancellor Cathy Sandeen presented the awards on September 21 in Madison, Wisconsin. The annual Chancellor’s Awards recognize UW Colleges and UW-Extension partners, supporters and employees for their outstanding contributions.
Jon Hochkammer (below, left), Leadership Wisconsin Board Member, received the 2017 Friend and Advocate Award. Hochkammer is the Outreach Manager for Wisconsin Counties Association where he oversees outreach efforts with all counties and any other groups that interact with county government. He provides important input for Cooperative Extension by bringing the views of the counties and other outside constituents into critical discussions. As Mayor of Verona since 2006, Hochkammer understands the role of UW-Extension across the state and often serves on important committees to offer advice. He regularly engages in emerging issues and ideas, such as the Wisconsin Partners Initiative, which focuses on community-level partnerships to address local and regional issues.
Ryan Schone (below, right), Leadership Wisconsin California Seminar Scholar, received the 2017 Award for Excellence. Schone is the Neighborhood Food Systems Coordinator for Cooperative Extension in Milwaukee County where he develops culturally inclusive educational programming. Chancellor Sandeen praised Schone for his efforts, “The SEED Milwaukee program, started and led by Ryan, incorporates all four Cooperative areas into one succinct educational program. Lessons including cooking and nutrition classes using garden produce, gardening classes led by Master Gardener volunteers, a youth development and entrepreneurship farming program, 4-H STEM programming, and rural/urban relationship building exchange meals.”
As part of University of Wisconsin-Extension, Cooperative Extension, Leadership Wisconsin is grateful for the awardees’ contributions. “UW Colleges and UW-Extension employees and partners work statewide to provide innovative education and services to students, business owners, farmers and citizens in every industry across Wisconsin,” said Sandeen. “The Chancellor’s Awards recognize those individuals who’ve gone above and beyond in extending our mission to every corner of the state.”
