This group of high achieving individuals represents a variety of diverse backgrounds, interests and expertise from across Wisconsin and Minnesota. After completing the application process, these seven Seminar Scholars were chosen to join Leadership Wisconsin and ten Signature Program Group XVII Fellows on a six-day educational opportunity in the Bay Area and Central Valley of California.
The Seminar Scholars for the 2017 U.S. Travel Seminar to California are as follows: Kathy Baumeister (Burlington), James Checkel (Kasson, MN), Joseph Malual (Chippewa Falls), Jordan Nordby (Monroe), Corinda Rainey-Moore (Madison), Ryan Schone (Milwaukee), and Zina Soltis (Wild Rose). While in California, the group will be using “whole measures” to study food systems and their relationship to natural resources and community and economic development under the leadership of seminar co-chairs Catherine Emmanuelle, UW-Extension Area Leader, and Mike Maddox, Master Gardener Program Director. Both University of Wisconsin-Extension employees, Emmanuelle and Maddox have extensive knowledge of the Bay Area and Central Valley and their connection to themes of community resiliency, immigration and criminal justice.
This is the inaugural group of Seminar Scholars as Leadership Wisconsin expands its travel seminar program to leaders outside of the Signature Program. Individuals interested in traveling with Leadership Wisconsin are invited to apply for one of the International Travel Seminars to Croatia or Finland.
