Recognizing and celebrating leadership is an important way that Leadership Wisconsin can develop leaders to strengthen communities.  Through the example of the award recipients we can not only affirm their work but we can be inspired to build our respective leadership capacity.  With each award, Leadership Wisconsin publicly affirms present achievements, seeks to encourage further work on the part of the recipients, and hopes to motivate others to follow their lead in service to Wisconsin communities.

The Leadership Excellence Awards (recognize individuals and organizations whose leadership has made a significant impact in Wisconsin. This work may confront societal or civic issues, address health or environmental concerns, or promote arts and humanities.  We celebrate people and organizations willing to rolling up their sleeves, taking initiative, and solving problems in their neighborhoods and communities.  The Leadership Excellence Awards showcase individual or organizational excellence in leadership as demonstrated by outstanding initiative, impact of work, and inspiration of others.

The Outstanding Alumni Award recognizes a graduate of the Leadership Wisconsin’s signature two-year program who’s professional and volunteer efforts have improved the lives of their fellow citizens. As the award criteria describes – “The recipient serves as a role model for all to emulate. Their life serves as an inspiration to others and they are best known for doing “the right thing. The recipient looks after the best interests of their community even when it is not politically expedient.”

The Russ O’Harrow Award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to Leadership Wisconsin.  From 1983 to 1988 Russ O’Harrow served as the first President of the Board of Directors. Russ was a statesmen like leader known throughout Wisconsin. After Russ passed away, his wife and his family decided to honor his memory and his contributions to the Leadership Wisconsin by establishing an award that would honor those who have made outstanding contributions to our organization and at the same time honor the life and commitment of Russ to our mission of Developing Leaders to Strengthen Communities.
